Happy Birthday Megan!
Nineteen years ago today a miracle happened. I had my baby girl. It was a very scary day for me and my family because she wasn’t supposed to be born until mid April.
The morning before she was born, Jeff left for work and everything was fine. I fell back asleep only to be awakened by a feeling like my water broke. I got up and went into the bathroom only it wasn’t water, it was blood and a lot of it. I called my sister Sharon right away and then Pam and Sue. They were all over so fast. My mom and dad lived up north then but when they got the call they made it here in record time. They called an ambulance and off I went to the hospital not knowing what was happening to my baby.
I was bleeding but I didn’t have any labor pains. At this point they told me I would be staying in the hospital until my baby was born which was one and a half months away. That evening I started to have labor pains. They gave me medicine to stop the labor but Megan wasn’t having it. They said my baby was in distress and I had to get to surgery immediately.
They sent Jeff home and just when he walked in the door, he had to turn back around because I was being rushed into to an emergency C-section.
I remember laying on the table crying and thinking the worst.
When she was born I saw a glimpse of her before they scooped he up and ran out the door with her and she looked like a little baby bird that got kicked out of the nest. She was 3 lbs. 4 ounces.
I went into recovery and Jeff came back with some pictures and showed me our new baby girl. She had wires and tubes and I was scared to look at them.
She spent a month in the NICU and she was so tiny. She had to be fed through a tube in her nose. We would visit her every day and some days we couldn’t touch her or hold her. I would cry all way home. I remember one time we went to see her and she was naked on her tummy with her butt sticking up in the air and all you could see were two bones where her butt should be. They said she was sick and we couldn’t see her that day and we both cried as we walked back out the door to go to the car.
They finally let her come home when she reached 4 lbs. but she had to be on a heart monitor until she was about 8 months old because she would forget to breathe. When the monitor went off we had to give her a shake to remind her to breathe.
Today is Megan's 19th birthday and she has grown into a beautiful young lady. I just can’t believe where the time went. We went through her baby book last night and she really loved reading all about her self as a baby.
Tonight we are going to the casino for her Birthday.
Thank you god for our beautiful Megan.
